This past year has surpassed our expectations. We have signed eight authors and released four books, with many more writers pitching us on books, and additional titles currently in development. Some of our publications have been recognized on prestigious book lists such as the Next Big Ideas Club, while others have achieved #1 rankings in their respective Amazon categories within days after being made available for pre-order.

Neil Seeman, publisher and co-founder of Sutherland House Experts, expressed how our successes this year can be linked to our unique positioning in the changing book publishing ecosystem.

“What sets us apart is our commitment to shared investment and shared rewards,” Neil says. “We work alongside our authors, refining their manuscripts and leveraging top-tier marketing strategies to reach key audiences. Our approach is entrepreneurial, meaning that we are as invested in the book’s success as our authors are. This past year has reinforced that an author’s reputation, credibility, and genuine expertise—rather than follower counts—are what resonate with our readers. We are the engine in amplifying these voices, rooted in the belief that thoughtful, authentic, expert-crafted stories have the power to drive lasting change.”

Although we have a lot to celebrate, we’ve learned a lot, too.

“In our first year, we discovered our distinct place in the publishing world by embracing a co-publishing model tailored to quiet experts whose voices need to be heard through compelling non-fiction,” Neil says. “Unlike traditional or self-publishing routes, we offer a collaborative journey—one that blends the rigor of traditional publishing with the adaptability of hybrid models. We found that our laser focus is on authors with proven expertise and perspectives that challenge conventional wisdom. With a strict “no jerks” policy, we commit to working with authors who are passionate, thoughtful, and who prioritize the integrity of their message.”

Like Sutherland House Experts, this was my first year working in the publishing space as well. As an avid reader and someone who has previously self-published a book online, I had a general idea of what goes into making a book. Since joining Sutherland House Experts, I realized that it takes a lot more time and effort than I imagined. Here are some things that I learned:

Every author’s process is different, and it is important to be able to meet them where they are and elevate; ride the wave, don’t fight the current. Deadlines are helpful for keeping everyone on track, but dates can shift or always be adjusted.

Mistakes happen. It’s how you learn from it and what you can do to fix it that matters most. Always allocate or buffer extra time for unexpected delays. We experienced customs delays with shipping our books from the printers, global supply chain disruptions, last-minute cover changes, or just needing more time to get the manuscript right. Curveballs can come due to things out of our control.

Canva is very effective, and fun too.

As you can see, we’ve achieved a fair amount in our first year.

We’ve hit some early milestones we’re proud of – but we still have plenty of gas left in the tank. Our progress is all thanks to our beloved authors, as well as to our stellar team. We wouldn’t be where we are now without them.

Happy one year anniversary to us, and may the next year be even better.

Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to amplify expert voices and share transformative stories. If you’re an author looking to make a difference, let’s connect and explore how we can bring your vision to life!
