Gerald Wright studied at Toronto, Oxford and Harvard Universities, and received a PhD degree in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University.
As vice-president of the Donner Canadian Foundation, he helped build a much-needed community of foreign policy analysts and critics outside government.
Later he served in the Government of Canada, including a period when he advised the External Affairs Minister on Canada’s role in the Yugoslav War.
He held a number of academic appointments, twice being a visiting professor of Canadian Studies in Japan and served as president of the Atlantic Council of Canada and a member of National Board of the Canadian International Council.
He is the author of articles and monographs on Canadian foreign policy.
