New Co-publishing Model, Sutherland House Experts, is Turning the Page on Book Publishing
Sutherland House Experts Corp. is a new and innovative co-publishing model and companion publisher to Sutherland House Books, a leading independent publisher of exceptional non-fiction books for global audiences.
“This bold new publishing venture is for expert authors with an entrepreneurial bent who want to publish to the highest standards in the industry,” said Kenneth Whyte, co-founder of Sutherland House Experts and publisher of Sutherland House Books.

“We are a new co-publishing press reserved for proven experts willing to share publishing costs in a manner that is entrepreneurial and commercially sensible in what we see as a new and exciting era of non-fiction book publishing,” said Mr. Seeman. “Too many expert-authored stories today go untold. Big Tech algorithms decide which experts are worthy of an audience. We’re on a mission to change that and give expert authors a fair deal,” Seeman added.
Authors apply through a competitive process, or are proactively sought out. If selected, authors receive a profit share for their books sold, dramatically higher than royalties offered by traditional non-fiction book publishers. Expert authors pay some fees upfront, and some fees on completing their manuscripts. Fees also depend on the author’s choice of added services they may want, including research, author coaching, and targeted publicity for niche audiences across the world.
“If we hit certain milestones together, an author’s co-investment drops. We seek writers who are entrepreneurial, successful in a field, willing to take risks—courageous people who inspire others and who love books,” added Mr. Seeman. So far, the 2024 expert author cohort includes a sleep-science entrepreneur, a glass-ceiling busting feminist pioneer, and a highly decorated US Army veteran and business leader.
Sutherland House Experts and Sutherland House Books are affiliated yet separately incorporated entities.

Kenneth Whyte is co-founder of Sutherland House Experts, and President of Sutherland House Books, which he founded in 2017. Neil Seeman is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sutherland House Experts. He is an author, entrepreneur, and educator. The founder and former CEO of a publicly traded Internet software firm, Neil is a senior fellow in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Massey College, the HIVE Lab, and the Investigative Journalism Bureau. He is the co-author of several books on mental health, including XXL: Obesity and the Limits of Shame (University of Toronto Press). He is the author, most recently, of Accelerated Minds: Unlocking the Fascinating, Inspiring, and Often Destructive Impulses that Drive the Entrepreneurial Brain, published by Sutherland House Books.
Ken Whyte and Neil Seeman first worked together during the launch and early years of The National Post, 25 years ago; Ken served as founding editor-in-chief and Neil was a founding member of the newspaper’s editorial board.
